Cycle World Inside Line
A Note from the Staff Team Facebook

Team Cycle World is a motley crew. To let the readers get to know the editorial staff a little better, we’ve made some changes to the way we use Facebook. The social media guy calls it approachability. All we know is that the editors no longer have to put little initials after their posts, because there’s now a familiar magazine headshot and name next to their posts and comments. Fans can thus see who they’re interacting with, our hope being that this helps engender more-natural conversations.

Another advantage to this change is that each editor can now use his own unique voice; so, expect a little more opinion to come through during the conversation. While they are still Cycle World ambassadors, they no longer have to worry about speaking as the “official” voice of the magazine. You may even see a little bit of stuff that doesn’t have a thing to do with motorcycles, and we think that is a good thing.

There now are 10 editor fan pages on Facebook in addition to the Cycle World page. Readers can interact alongside the editors on the magazine’s wall, or they can engage staff members directly by “liking” their favorite editors’ fan pages. This encourages a higher level of interaction between the edit staff and fans, making it far easier for both sides to share comments and updates.

We hope this new approach to communication is, just like motorcycles, more fun for both fans and editors, and that it results in organic growth of Cycle World’s fan base on Facebook.

Look for more changes on the Facebook page soon as more initiatives are rolled out.

Cernicky’s World

I’m so fired up right now, yep even more than usual. Racing is my passion, and this year looks like it’ll involve lots of racing in Cernicky’s world. First off, our 2011 Honda CRF450R is headed to Yoshimura R&D in Chino, CA. Sean and the boys there are prepping it as a dirt-track racer for me to ride in more SCFTA local events, and I hope that competition helps keep me in shape for some AMA Pro Singles races. I’m also looking forward to competing in one or two AMA Flat Track races this year.

Speaking of staying in shape, Cycle World is now working out the final details to enter the “Race to the Clouds” Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 26th, 2011. Thanks to Ducati and Pirelli tires, I’ll be racing a new Ducati Pikes Peak Edition Multistrada at this awesome event. The Race to the Clouds is a 12.42-mile race run in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This incredible mountain-road hillclimb twists its way from 9,390 feet in elevation up to 14,110 ft. at the finish line. Come out and root for me. I’ll need all the help I can get.

That’s my world for the next couple of months. I can’t wait to get out there racing dirt-track and getting ready for the race at Pikes Peak!

Cycle World’s Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund

A decade ago, Cycle World and Ride for Kids® came together with a common goal to make a difference in the lives of brain tumor survivors. With the importance of education in mind, the foundation was built for Cycle World’s Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund. This fund, named after Cycle World’s founder, Joe Parkhurst, is a unique college scholarship fund dedicated to helping pediatric brain tumor survivors achieve their educational hopes and dreams.

This past month, Cycle World has been auctioning off new and used helmets, jackets, pants, gloves, boots, full racing leathers, replacement faceshields and other parts and accessories on eBay with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit the Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund. Bidders have had the opportunity to purchase quality motorcycle equipment, bid on memorabilia supplied by industry manufacturers for use in Cycle World magazine photo and video shoots and, most importantly, help to defray the cost of education for a well-deserving brain-tumor survivor in financial need.

Cycle World
and Ride for Kids would like to thank you in advance for making this inaugural charity eBay auction a huge success and for choosing to support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation®, the Joseph C. Parkhurst Education Fund and the many childhood brain tumor survivors desperately in need of a brighter future. With your help, we can fuel their educational hopes and dreams, and help provide them with a path to a higher education that has no boundaries.
